The Higher Council of Ulemas has unveiled the amount of the Zakat Al Fitr for the year 1440 AH. According to a statement from the Council, the amount is 13 dirhams per person.
Zakat is a pillar of Islam. It is an alms operation on the occasion of Aid El Fitr announcing the end of the month of Ramadan. It is anchored in Moroccan traditions and consists in offering a Saâ (The equivalent of one pound or 450 g) of barley or wheat according to the consumption of the population, for each member still dependent on his family.
The “fatwa” of the year 1431 of the Hegira makes it possible to pay Zakat in cash. And this, in the concern “to ensure the general interest”.
However, any person can pay a higher amount or quantity if he has the means. Zakat will have to be given on Aid Day or before.
