5000 mosques will reopen tomorrow in Morocco

“5000 mosques will reopen their doors to the faithful tomorrow,” said Ahmed Taoufiq this afternoon during a session of oral questions in the House of Councilors. “The list of these places of worship will be available on the website of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs,” he said in response to a question from the Istiqlal group.

The Minister listed the preventive measures that practitioners must observe before going to the mosques, during and after the completion of the five prayers. Measures have already been the subject of a press release from his department on July 7.

Ahmed Taoufiq defended the management of his department from the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, stressing that the closure of the mosques, decided on March 17, was intended to “protect the faithful”.

The kingdom has more than 50000 mosques, which means that this reopening only affects around 10% of places of worship.
