The return of Abderrazak Hamdallah in selection is highly anticipated. The player, more than ever fit, is determined to break everything with the Atlas Lions.
The former footballer from Safi Olympique had been talking about him around the world after his last two galactic seasons with Al-Nassr Riyadh. He has scored 46 goals in 32 games played this year, which earned him the title of best player in the Saudi championship.
All Moroccans hoped to see him in the national team after many years of absence. Hervé Renard had indeed summoned the player last February, but the player had declined the coach’s offer for family reasons. Renard did not let go of the affair for the sake of the national team and decided to remind him again, recently, in his pre-list of the AfCON which starts on June 21st.
After this second call, Hamdallah was motivated to make history with the Lions. “I never had the time to demonstrate what I have in my stomach with the national team. I like challenges and I hope I’ll have a chance this time to show what I’m worth,” said the player.
Morocco will play two friendlies before flying to Egypt, Gambia on June 12 and Zambia on the 16th. One goal haunts the mind of the Moroccan international: Win the African Cup. “It’s really shameful to see all this years go by without Morocco winning the African trophy, after the one from 1976. We have to give it all and make a lot of effort to raise this title 40 years later,” he concluded.
