AfCON futsal 2020: Mauritius withdraws from competition

Mauritius has decided to withdraw from the 2020 Africa Cup of Nations Futsal currently being held in Laâyoune.

The country decided to leave the tournament even if it participated in the opening match against Equatorial Guinea. The Mauritius selection, which had replaced South Africa after its withdrawal for political reasons, was due to play its second match this Thursday against Libya.

“Mauritius’ decision will not affect the tournament or the scheduling of matches. Pending the CAF sanction, the selections that were to face Mauritius will have three victory points”. The Mauritius Federation risks a fine of $ 75,000 from CAF and could be deprived of the next two editions of the AfCON.
