Ajax: Hakim Ziyech voted player of the year

Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech has been voted best player of the year for Ajax in Amsterdam, the Dutch club announced on Friday on its website.

Author of 9 goals and 21 assists in all competitions, Ziyech, who will join Chelsea as soon as next season resumes, is voted best Ajacid player for the third consecutive time.

The Atlas Lion, who has made Ajax’s handsome players for four seasons, has signed a 5-year contract to join Frank Lampard’s Blues for € 44 million. Having been unable to say goodbye to the pitch after the Eredivisie season ended due to the coronavirus, Ajax number 22 received a vibrant tribute from the Amsterdam club.

Indeed, in a report entitled “Magician of Amsterdam” (Wizards of Ams), published Thursday on the website of the Dutch club, the Moroccan was invited to react to the videos of the most significant moments of his time at the club since his arrived in 2016.

Between joy and bitterness, the 27-year-old striker relived on video the best moments of his young career marked by victories including those against the great Real Madrid in the knockout stages of the Champions League and against Juventus in the quarterfinals prestigious European competition. The Moroccan also remembered his lost semi-final against the Tottenham Spurs who deprived the Ajacids.

Hakim Ziyech also spoke of the difficult period he went through when his friend and Moroccan team-mate Abdelhak Nouri suffered a severe heart attack during a pre-season friendly match he was playing on July 8, 2017 with the Ajax against Werder Bremen.

Touched and in tears, the Moroccan watched videos of messages from his teammates but also from his mother who, speaking in Darija, wished him good luck in his new London adventure.
