Algeria wakes up without Bouteflika

After 20 long years in power, Algeria woke up this Wednesday, April 3rd without Abdelaziz Bouteflika. The President has indeed presented Tuesday his resignation to the President of the Constitutional Council.

After the announcement, thousands of Algerians gathered in front of the post office and celebrated the departure of their president. Flags, smoke, fireworks … the neighbors of the east did not skimp on the means to express their joy.

“I am here to celebrate the resignation of Bouteflika. We just got rid of the biggest problem,” said a protester. An Algerian, for her part, said she was proud of this departure. “This is the victory of the people,” she said. “This country is gaining new independence. Long live freedom!” said a young man.
