Atos, Siemens and the Office National de l’Electricité et de l’Eau Potable (ONEE) in the Kingdom announce their collaboration in a large project for the intelligent management of the local electricity network “smart grid”. Atos and Siemens are working on setting up a smart electricity metering platform that will allow ONEE to take control of the data collected by more than 100,000 smart meters that will be installed across the country – and thus optimize the energy consumption and management of the national network while meeting the growing energy needs of Morocco.
ONEE, which has supported Morocco’s energy transition since 2012, needed a scalable grid operating system, as the deployment of smart electricity meters changes the operational and business models of public services.
The project is part of the national program “Clean energy and energy efficiency” and includes the implementation of the Siemens EnergyIP® meter data management platform, which makes it possible to use the data collected in an automated way, to raise awareness end users to their energy consumption and generate a more secure income stream. Atos experts will take care of IT infrastructure and security work and ensure the consistency of all technical solutions. They will also oversee the management of the contract, local services, as well as support for change management.
This new sophisticated energy management system is equipped with the necessary functionalities to meet the needs of a constantly evolving network and makes it possible to support national digital transformation initiatives. For Atos and Siemens, this is the largest joint smart grid project in Africa. This reflects the strategies of the two partners who are committed to supporting the environmental approaches of their customers.
“We are delighted to support the Moroccan National Office for Electricity and Water in its transformation process, in collaboration with our strategic partner Siemens. With more than 40 years of experience in the energy field and a constantly renewed commitment to the decarbonisation of its customers ‘activities, Atos is ready to fully exploit the expertise of its competence and transformation center “NetZero” to support the evolution of the Moroccan electricity network, for the benefit of all citizens. We are happy to support smart grid management and help Morocco optimize its energy consumption”, specifies Giuseppe di Franco, Director of Resources & Services activities at Atos.
“Our EnergyIP solution, implemented here with our strategic partner Atos, will help ONEE to fully exploit electricity consumption data and optimize the overall management of the national grid. Our technology will support ONEE’s digital transformation and serve as the basis for future technological developments. We are proud to be part of this change and to bring more intelligence to the Moroccan electricity grid, as well as to support the country on the path to a more sustainable and low carbon energy future”, adds Sabine Erlinghagen, CEO Digital Grid at Siemens Smart Infrastructure.
