Aziz Akhannouch is the new head of government in Morocco

King Mohammed VI received in audience Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Royal Palace of Fez, Aziz Akhannouch, president of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), who came at the head of the legislative election of September 8.

In a statement, the Ministry of the Royal House, Protocol and Chancellery announced that Aziz Akhannouch, president of the RNI, has been appointed head of government by King Mohammed VI, who has tasked him with forming the new government.

The RNI won the legislative elections on September 8, with 102 seats. Aziz Akhannouch thus replaces El Othmani whose party (PJD) won only 13 seats.

According to the provisions of article 47 of the Constitution, “The King appoints the Head of Government within the political party which has won the elections for members of the House of Representatives, and in view of their results, on the proposal of the Head of government, he appoints the members of the government”.
