Brazilian MPs representing different political movements commended the quality of the long-standing friendship relations between Brazil and Morocco, expressing their wish to see them further developed under the new administration of president Jair Bolsonaro, who will take office on Tuesday.
In a statement, after a series of meetings held Monday in Brasilia with head of government, Saâd Eddine El Otmani, representatives of both chambers of the Brazilian Congress praised the quality of bilateral relations, stressing that they can develop further through several common features.
Chairman of the Brazilian Senate’s Foreign Relations and National Defense Committee (CRE), Fernando Collor, lauded the Kingdom’s participation in the inauguration ceremony of Brazil’s newly elected president, Jair Bolsonaro, as an illustration of the strength of bilateral relations.
On his part, head of the Brazil-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Senate, Cristovam Buarque, said that the two countries share very good ties.
According to MP Alan Rick, “relations between our two countries will develop further under the new government”.
“Our trade and economic ties will be strengthened as well as the friendship between Morocco and Brazil,” he added.
For his part, MP Pauderney Avelino said that the two countries have good trade and tourism links, adding that “there is a high degree of flexibility to develop and accelerate them further”.
This year, bilateral relations were marked by the adoption of a parliamentary motion supporting the Kingdom’s efforts to reach a political solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara, he recalled.
