CAF President in Laâyoune for the 6th AfCON of Futsal

The president of the African Football Confederation (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad arrived Monday night in Laâyoune to attend the 6th African Cup of Nations (AfCON) for Futsal Total 2020.

In a press statement at Hassan 1er airport in Laâyoune, the president of CAF thanked the Moroccan authorities and officials for the mobilization of the necessary means for the reception and success of this great African competition and for building the necessary infrastructure to promote football and sport in general.

For his part, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Faouzi Lekjaa said that the city of Laâyoune and the southern provinces of the Kingdom in general, are now qualified to host the biggest sporting events at continental and world thanks to the development policy conducted under the leadership of King Mohammed VI.

The opening ceremony of the 6th AfCON of Futsal, which will continue until February 07, will take place on Tuesday afternoon.

The eight teams qualified for this edition were divided into 2 groups. Group A includes Morocco and Equatorial Guinea, Mauritius and Libya, while Group B is made up of Egypt, Guinea, Angola, Mozambique.

The first day of the competition will be marked by the organization of two matches: Equatorial Guinea will meet Mauritius and Morocco will be opposed and Libya.

This quadrennial African competition offers three tickets to the FIFA Futsal World Cup to be held from September 12 to October 4, 2020 in Lithuania.

Winners of the 2016 Futsal AfCON in South Africa ahead of Egypt (3-2), the Moroccans wish to keep the prestigious trophy.
