A huge fire erupted in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday at the Casablanca wholesale market. For the moment, no human damage has been reported.
In a statement to Daily Morocco, Mustapha Zerouali, a trader, said that the material losses caused by the fire that ravaged Casablanca’s wholesale market are estimated at more than 2.5 million dirhams. He pointed out that the fire hit six pick up trucks and six heavy trucks, three of which were totally destroyed by the flames.
“The fire that broke out around 1 am destroyed many vegetables including tomatoes, onions and cauliflower. The losses are estimated at more than 250 million centimes, he lamented.
Mutapha Zerouali also said the fire was caused by a short circuit, ensuring that traders had alerted key market officials about the risk.
