King Mohammed VI inaugurated on Wednesday, the second line of the Casablanca tramway (T2). This new line, whose construction work was launched by the Sovereign on January 25, 2016, crosses, along a length of 15 km, the axis Sidi Bernoussi, Ain Sbaâ, Mohammadi Hay, Derb Sultan, El Fida and Anoual, before to join the 8 km branch linking Derb Ghallef, Beauséjour, Casa Finance City, Hay Hassani and Ain Diab, which went into service on December 12, 2012 on the occasion of the launch of the first tram line (T1).
The project mobilized an investment of 3.77 billion MAD. In total, the network of the Casablanca Tramway now totals 47 km, “with a first line of 24 km and a second of 23 km,” says DG Casa Transport, Nabil Belabed.
Line 2 has three connecting points with the T1 line, including the “Abdelmoumen – Anoual”, “Ibn Tachfine – Mdakra”, “Ali Yaata – Central Careers” stations. It serves nine boroughs with a population of more than one million and has 33 stop-and-go stations, including 20 new stations.
Initially, some 16 new coupled trains, of a length of 64 m, will be deployed on this line to reach, eventually, 25 trains. The operation of the new line will be gradual, moving from a frequency of 9 minutes to 6 minutes in rush hour.
