Casablanca: Record attendance for SIEL 2019

The 25th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair of Casablanca (SIEL 2019), which ended on Sunday evening, had a record attendance, with more than 550,000 visitors, said the Minister of Culture and Communication, Mohamed Laaraj.

Laaraj pointed out that the number of visitors to the show rose from 520,000 the previous year to more than 550,000, noting that this figure is the largest since the launch of this annual event.

This edition has been a great success on all levels. She has distinguished herself by the large influx of children and young people which testifies to the important place of the book, as well as the rich documentary background exposed, he noted, adding that this kind of event encourages the society of the to know and promote the practice of reading to citizens.

This unmissable event on the cultural agenda is today ranked among the major cultural events on an international scale, he said.

This 25th edition was also marked by the organization of several cultural meetings bringing together a host of renowned Moroccan and foreign researchers and thinkers, he added.

Placed under the High Patronage of King Mohammed VI, this 25th edition of the SIEL, held from February 7 to 17, was attended by more than 700 exhibitors representing 40 countries, with Spain as guest of honor.

Initiated by the Ministry of Culture and Communication (Department of Culture), this edition was marked by the participation of 350 writers, poets, researchers, economists and politicians from around the world, who illuminated with their intellectual contributions the sky of this renowned International Salon.
