Renault and PSA have signed an agreement whereby Renault buys the 20% stake PSA in Somaca, the Renault factory in Casablanca. The Renault Group continues to affirm its commitment to the development of the Kingdom’s automotive industry.
Morocco is positioning itself more than ever as a base for the production and export of Global Access vehicles with its Casablanca and Tangier sites.
Created in 1959 on the initiative of the Moroccan government, the Renault factory in Casablanca has been manufacturing Renault Group models since 1966 and Dacia models since 2005. It is now the flagship of the automotive industry in the Kingdom. Somaca produces Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway.
In 2018, 69% of the vehicles produced in Casablanca were exported to Europe, Egypt and the Gulf countries, making the “made in Morocco” shine abroad. Thanks to the success of the two Dacia and Renault brands, the Group recorded in 2018 the best growth of all brands of vehicles marketed in Morocco with a record market share of 42.5%. This performance reinforces the Group’s leadership position in the Moroccan automotive sector.
