Coronavirus: 2,798 people under medical surveillance in Morocco

So far, 143 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (Covid-19) have been confirmed in Morocco, the director of epidemiology and disease control at the Ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, said on Monday.

The number of deaths from the virus is four and the number of cases cured five, said El Youbi in a statement.

The official said that out of a total of 2,798 people placed under medical surveillance as part of the epidemiological watch plan, 643 cases were excluded following negative tests carried out in the laboratory.

Currently, 2,117 are still under sanitary control, while 582 others have completed the surveillance period, noted Youbi, noting that 22 contacts have been tested positive.

In terms of regional distribution, Fès-Meknès leads the regions affected by the virus with 35 cases, followed by Casablanca-Settat (34) and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (32). Then come the Marrakech-Safi region with 15 cases, Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima 09 cases, the Oriental (07), Souss-Massa (06), Beni Mellal-Khenifra (03), only one case in the Draa Tafilalet region and the Guelmim-Oued Noun region.
