Doukkali: 5 local emergency units will be equipped annually

Five local emergency units will be equipped annually as part of the plan to accelerate the emergency upgrade 2019-2021, said Tuesday in Rabat, the Minister of Health, Anas Doukkali.

Responding to an oral question on “the generalization and support of local emergencies in Morocco”, presented by the group of the National Rally of Independents in the House of Councilors, Mr. Doukkali stressed that his department plans, through this plan, to strengthen the capacities of the medical and paramedical staff practicing at these hospital units, in order to respond optimally to emergency medical consultations.

In this context, he reminded that through the national plan of medical emergencies 2012-2016, his department has set up units “local emergencies”, located in level 2 health centers, to bring services closer together in emergency medical services for residents of remote areas, with no hospital facilities and no local hospital, stating that, to date, 96 hospital units equipped with technical equipment, medicines and human resources have been put in place.

For the establishment of these units, standards were adopted in accordance with the decree determining the organization of the offer of care, he continued, stating that these units must have a maternity, meet the needs of a certain number of inhabitants (25,000 inhabitants for the rural health center and 50,000 inhabitants for the urban health center) and to be located 30 km from the reference hospital.

The Ministry of Health launched last December, a plan to accelerate the emergency upgrade 2019-2021, aimed at improving the quality of emergency medical assistance services.
