After the decision of BeIN Sports not to broadcast its programs in Egypt, the Egyptian society that manages the distribution of encrypted digital channels in the country is out of silence. Indeed, the “CNA” stated that BeIN Sports reacted unilaterally.
In addition, the Egyptian company has promised repayment to customers who have paid their subscriptions in case it can not reach an agreement with the Qatari group.
On the broadcast of the 2019 CAN by BeIN, Egyptian Youth and Sports Minister Achraf Sobhi told local media that a compromise is being negotiated, adding that for now no agreement has been signed.
Recall that BeIN Sports has announced the end of the broadcast of its channels in Egypt in a statement that has sparked controversy.
It should also be noted that relations between Egypt and BeIN Sports have been very tense lately. The sports broadcasting giant was sentenced in March last year to a fine of 18 million euros by the Egyptian Commercial Court for “violation of the law on the principle of competition”.
The Egyptians will not be the only ones to be deprived of beIN Sports channels. In June 2018, the Qataris decided to block its bouquet in the United Arab Emirates after the crisis that broke out between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Just as the UAEs broke off relations with Doha accusing it of supporting extremist groups and getting closer to Iran.
