EL Othmani calls for strenghtening Relations Between Morocco and Brazil

These meetings focused in particular on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and on the major reform projects carried out by the Kingdom under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

On this occasion, El Othmani highlighted the quality of bilateral relations. “This meeting with representatives of both chambers of Congress and Brazilian decision-making centres is very important as it provided an opportunity to review the quality of bilateral ties,” he said.

The head of government, who will represent HM King Mohammed VI at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, also mentioned the presence, on both sides, of “a willingness to develop these relations for the better in the economic, political and trade fields between the two peoples”.

“There is a need to further develop the strong relationship between our two countries,” El Othmani stressed.

Regarding the national issue, the head of government praised the adoption, by a majority of Brazilian MPs, of a parliamentary motion supporting the Kingdom’s efforts to reach a political solution to the artificial dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

As part of these meetings, El Othmani held talks with chairman of the Brazilian Senate’s Foreign Relations and National Defence Committee (CRE), Fernando Collor, who commended the Kingdom’s participation in the inauguration ceremony of Brazil’s new president, stressing that this is “an illustration of the solidity of bilateral relations”.

In addition to Collor, El Othmani met with chairman of the Brazil-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Senate, Cristovam Buarque, MP Pauderney Avelino, MP Alan Rick, and the doyens of Arab and African ambassadors accredited to Brasilia.

Upon the instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, El Othmani arrived in Brasilia to represent the Sovereign at the official inauguration ceremony of the newly elected Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, on 1 January 2019.
