Electricity sales from Morocco to Spain raise some concerns in Madrid. Voices rise to denounce “unfair competition”, claiming that the Kingdom sells energy produced from its coal plants while they do not pay CO2 emission rights as it is the case in the European Union.
For example, Spain’s Minister for Ecological Transition Teresa Ribera has appealed to the European Commission for her opinion on Moroccan electricity sales to Spain.
On Monday, the European Commissioner for Action on Climate and Energy of the European Union, the Spaniard Miguel Arias Cañete, told the Spanish media that the EU was already working on the answer it would give to Madrid.
