FAR: A military exercise on High Royal Instructions

On the High Instructions of the King, Supreme Head and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the combined Moroccan-American exercise “African Lion 2019” takes place from March 16 to April 7, 2019 in the region of Agadir, Tifnit, TanTan, Tata, and Ben Guérir, involving thousands of militiamen and a very large number of equipment.

The objectives of this exercise, considered among the most important interallied exercises in the world, are numerous: to validate the concepts of employment of the land forces, to reinforce the interoperability of the means and air-land command systems used by the two nations, to train the air component to the conduct of the operations of hunting and refueling in flight, and finally, to carry out activities of humanitarian order, indicates a communiqué of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

It will include, in addition to training in command and training activities on operations against violent terrorist organizations, ground exercises, airborne air and tactical simulation, the statement said, adding that the 16th edition of this exercise will involve the participation of military units and observers from 5 countries representing Africa, Europe and North America, namely Canada, Spain, Great Britain, Senegal, Tunisia, in addition to the United States of America and the Kingdom of Morocco.

In addition, and as part of the civil-military parallel humanitarian activities, medical services will be provided to local populations in the Tata region by medical teams made up of doctors and nurses of the Royal Armed Forces and the American army.

Exercise “African Lion 2019” is part of the major exercises jointly organized by the United States Command for Africa (AFRICOM) and the Royal Armed Forces, aimed at consolidating the level of cooperation and training as well as exchange of experience and knowledge between the various military components to enable them to achieve their full operational capability, according to the release.
