Foot-and-mouth disease: 2.5 million vaccinated cattle

Some 2,561,708 cattle have been vaccinated by the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) since the launch of the cattle vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease in January 2019 and up to February 28th, represents a coverage rate of over 85%, the Office said.

In order to cover the entire national herd of cattle, the private veterinarians, as well as the technicians and veterinary doctors of ONSSA continue the vaccination in the different regions of the Kingdom.

In parallel with the vaccination operation aimed at strengthening the immune mattress of the national cattle herd, ONSSA’s veterinary services monitor the health status of the livestock, which remains stable.

ONSSA has also compensated the breeders whose animals were destroyed. The total amount of compensation paid to herders amounted to 8,785,000 dirhams, corresponding to the destruction of 400 head of cattle and 1,559 heads of sheep and goats. The national herd is estimated at 3 million cattle and 25 million sheep and goats.
