Foot-and-mouth disease: ONSSA sounds the riposte

ONSSA continues the campaign of vaccination of the herd to avoid the cases of foot-and-mouth disease and their propagation. After the cattle, the campaign will be extended to sheep and goats to eliminate the new virus strain that appeared last January.

“Actions will be extended to sheep and goats and implemented from next June, upon receipt of the vaccine adapted to this new viral strain,” says the Office, adding that booster vaccinations will also be carried out for cattle.

At this stage, the health status of the national cattle, sheep and goat herd does not seem worrying. However, recent field investigations carried out by ONSSA’s veterinary services have revealed cases of lameness in adult sheep and goats “with no serious effect on their health status” and mortality rates mainly in sheep and goat births. goats less than one month old. The regions concerned are mainly Fes-Meknes, Oriental and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra, says ONSSA.
