Moroccan rapper French Montana sparked fury in the RAP US community after comparing himself to Compton’s prodigy, Kendrick Lamar.
Indeed, during an interview with the Complex media, French Montana had the clumsiness to boast of having more hits than Kendrick Lamar:
“I could surpass him, not because I’m a better rapper or anything else, but because I have more hits. Kendrick Lamar has albums, he has masterpieces, but if you put us on a festival stage, I would overshadow him because I have more hits.”
The native of Casablanca gave more explanations later on his twitter account about his statements: “If we only talk about hits, me against Kendrick, I think I am neck and neck! I’ve been doing tubes for a long time! It is not my fault that I believe in myself. How should I answer this question? How many times do I have to prove myself before being recognized.”
Rapper Young Thug, visibly very upset with the Moroccan, reacted to the latter’s comments by posting a video on the networks: “French Montana, listen my friend, I only speak from an artistic point of view. You have no more hits than Kendrick and you will never have as many as him. Get it out of your head, I don’t know what you’re taking as a drug.”
Since then, the two artists have held several violent exchanges on social networks.
You have to understand who Kendrick Lamar is above all, because the Californian is a prodigy acclaimed by the greatest (Dre-Eminem-Ice Cube …), who have repeatedly qualified him as the “new King of Hip-hop”.
Kendrick is the first rapper to win the highly prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 2018. He has 13 Grammy Awards and has been nominated 28 times in his career. He has to his credit a total of seven nominations at the 56th Grammy Awards in 2014, for his album good kid, m.A.A.d city including the album of the year.
A year later, at the 57th Grammy Awards in 2015, he won the awards for best song and best rap performance for his single i. Her third studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly, is nominated for the Album of the Year award at the 58th Grammy Awards in 2016.
He is the second most named artist in the history of the Grammy Awards, only Michael Jackson totals more than him in a ceremony, with 12 nominations. The rapper appeared for the first time on The Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world, in 2016, just that!
