Gabon’s government spokesman Bertrand Mapangou said on Monday that the military coup attempt to overthrow President Ali Bongo’s regime was thwarted and that the military had been arrested.
“The situation is now under control, and life will return to normal within three hours,” he said, after military radio broadcast a coup in the capital Libreville.
The speech of the official spokesman for the Gabonese government, came after several officers seized control of the government radio building and announced the establishment of a “national reform council aimed at saving the country from chaos.”
