Google breaks with Huawei

Google announced Sunday the end of its relationship with Huawei amid trade tensions between the United States and China. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, number 2 worldwide ahead of Apple, will soon no longer have the right to access certain services from Google and the mobile operating system Android.

As a result, hundreds of millions of Huawei devices may have unrepaired vulnerabilities. Google has not specified the effective date of this break. What is certain, users of devices from the Chinese manufacturer will no longer be able to access Google Play, the platform for downloading Google-approved applications to run on Android. This app is the only way to download services like Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. Huawei could find a solution by having its own application store.

Note that current owners of Huawei smartphones will still be able to use the Google store and will also benefit from updates.
