Hakim Ziyech, second best player in Europe

In the latest CIES weekly report, the football observatory uses InStat’s sports data to reveal the Top 10 best players since the beginning of the season in the 35 European leagues. Hakim Ziyech is in second place behind Lionel Messi.

If Hakim Ziyech is often underestimated by the big European clubs, the CIES, the observatory of football, comes to restore a statement made by football fans around the world: Hakim Ziyech is currently one of the best players in the world.

In a ranking published by the Observatory, based on statistics delivered by Instat, the Lion of the Atlas is even the second best player in the world with 377 points behind the untouchable Lionel Messi (401 points). Very prolific, smuggler but also scorer, Hakim Ziyech treats his teammates Ajax Amsterdam with no less than 15 assists in 20 games this season to which we must add 7 goals including jewelry against Valencia and Chelsea in the Champions League.

It’s a nice revenge for the former Twente player. Despite a season 2018/2019 in all exceptional, punctuated by 21 goals and 24 assists in 49 games and a crazy epic with Ajax in the Champions League, Hakim Ziyech was not part of the selection of 30 nominated for the Ballon d’Or unlike four of his teammates, while the Moroccan was the spearhead of the Ajax.

Moreover no club of the top 5 European wished to enlist the international Moroccan despite a very affordable price. Reluctantly, the Moroccan has extended his contract with the club Batavian but thanks to this ranking and his talent, Ziyech is now recognized at its fair value.

Messi in the lead, Cristiano Ronaldo trolling

Freshly named Ballon d’Or, Lionel Messi is at the top of this ranking. The position of Messi is all the more breathtaking as his treble this weekend is not taken into account, but especially that he missed a good part of the beginning of the season. It is the Frenchman Kylian Mbappé (366 points) who closes the podium. Not really successful this season, Cristiano Ronaldo, meanwhile, is in 25th place.

Last week, Hakim Ziyech was voted the best offensive midfielder in the world, according to a survey conducted jointly by the sports media Goal.com in partnership with EA Sport, a producer of FIFA 20. The Ajax midfielder Amsterdam was chosen as the best player in his post. He came in ahead of the poll with 67% of the votes (8950), ahead of powerful opponents like the Belgian Kevin De Bruyne (3400 votes) and Argentine Paolo Dybala (722 votes).
