Half of Moroccans consider themselves poor. This is the main conclusion of the new report of the National Observatory for Human Development, which still indicates that the standard of living of the population has improved by 2.2% annually between 2012 and 2017.
According to sources, the rural world has recorded an improvement of the order of 3.5% per year, while the urban world has not exceeded the 1.2%.
On the territorial level, however, the social deficit remains important between rural and urban areas. The standard of living in the latter being twice that of the first, notes the same source.
In addition, relative poverty decreased between 2012 and 2017 from 21.4% to 19.7% nationally.
The report finally notes that despite the improvement of these indicators, 50.1% of households still consider themselves poor, while in 2012 the figure was around 46.6%.
