The Managing Director of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Adnan Amin, welcomed the visionary vision of HM King Mohammed VI in Abu Dhabi on Thursday to promote the renewable energy sector.
Speaking at a forum on scaling up the use of renewable energy on the African continent, with the participation of many African ministers of energy as a prelude to the 9th General Assembly of the Agency, Mr. Amin stressed that projects and projects related to renewable energies that have been initiated in Morocco in recent years have made the Kingdom a leader in this vital area.
The Director-General of IRENA stressed that his visit to Morocco in July last year gave him the opportunity to see firsthand the ambitious, renewable-energy programs initiated by the Kingdom, particularly in Ouarzazate.
The annual meeting of the International Renewable Energy Agency will take place this Friday with the participation of more than 120 ministers and government representatives from 160 countries around the world.
During this meeting, ways will be explored to accelerate the pace of renewable energy promotion to achieve sustainable development and climate goals. In addition to policy makers, this conclave will include the participation of senior representatives of international institutions, private companies and civil society organizations.
IRENA was founded on 26 January 2009 in Bonn, Germany, after a conference of 75 countries that have adopted its status.
The first IRENA General Assembly, held in 2011, chose Abu Dhabi as the seat of this intergovernmental organization with the mission of promoting renewable energy on a global scale.
