Jumia, the first e-commerce platform in Africa, has entered into a partnership with Chinese company Xiaomi, on the sidelines of the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.
This deal gives millions of users in 14 African countries easy access to Xiaomi products. This agreement will initially cover Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, Ivory Coast and Ghana, and will cover all the other countries where Jumia operates.
Most markets will be sourced directly from China, “which confirms the rapid expansion of intercontinental trade in Africa,” says Jumia Group. It should be noted that the smartphone penetration rate in Africa reached 36% in 2018 and should reach 66% by 2025.
