A record registered in the courts of the Kingdom in the number of cases registered with the judicial year 2018, amounted to two million and 901 thousand and 975 cases, distributed between 284,726 cases registered in the courts of the second degree, and 2,455,457 cases registered in the courts of first instance, and 161,792 cases registered in the courts of the first degree specialized.
Statistics of Courts Activity in 2018 issued by the Ministry of Justice revealed that the number of cases in the Kingdom’s courts during the previous year was 3,566,281; of which 395,562 cases were registered in the second instance courts, 2,985,931 cases registered with the courts of first instance, 184,788 cases registered with Specialized first instance courts.
In 2018, a total of 2,965,919 cases were resolved by the judges of the Kingdom’s courts, of which 2,509,918 were dismissed by the courts of first instance, and 294,450 cases were handled by second instance courts, while the number of cases ruled by specialized first instance courts was 161,551 cases.
The courts of first instance ranked the courts by 2018 cases with 2,455,457 cases with 84.61 per cent of the total cases, followed by ordinary courts of appeal by 9.02 per cent of the cases, commercial courts by 4.48 per cent, The Administrative Court of Justice by 1.09 per cent, the Commercial Court of Appeals by 0.40 per cent and, finally, the Administrative Appeals Courts by 0.39 per cent of the total.
Similarly, the courts ranked according to the most popular cases in 2018. The number of cases before the courts of first instance was 2,985,931 cases, representing 83.73% of the total cases of 3,566,281 cases, followed by ordinary courts of appeal by 10,17%, followed by commercial courts by 4.12 per cent, administrative courts by 1.06 per cent, and 0.47 per cent by trade courts and 0.45 per cent by administrative courts of appeal.
Of the cases resolved during the year 2018, 84.63 per cent were settled by the courts of first instance, 17.9 per cent by ordinary courts of appeal, and commercial courts were separated in 4.40 per cent of all cases before the various courts in the Kingdom. The proportion of cases in which the administrative courts ruled was 1.04 per cent, the commercial appellate courts decided in 0.39 per cent of the cases, and the administrative appeals courts were 0.37 per cent.
