Marrakech Menara International Airport celebrated, on Wednesday, its 6 millionth passenger, during a grand ceremony, organized on the initiative of the National Office of Airports (ONDA).
On arrival at Marrakech Menara Airport, which for the first time reached the milestone of 6 million passengers, the lucky winner of Qatar Airways flight number 1463, from Doha, was seen awarding presents from ONDA, Qatar Airways and event partners.
On this occasion, a warm welcome was given to this passenger of American origin, in the presence of the Wali of Marrakech-Safi region, governor of the prefecture of Marrakech, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, and other personalities.
In a statement, the director of the airport operation, Hamid Mokadem, highlighted the importance and the symbolic of this happy event that celebrates the arrival of the 6 millionth passenger at the Marrakech Menara airport.
The airport of the Ocher City has recorded, in recent years, a very significant evolution of traffic that exceeded 20 pc, he said, noting that the figure reached today, which is 6 million passengers, will experience a marked increase.
This aim is the result of efforts made by all stakeholders and led by the ONDA, he said, noting that the Marrakech Menara airport “is today with destinations and provenances doubled with several European cities, in addition to those of Jeddah, Istanbul and Doha”.
The airport, located in a world-renowned tourist city, meets all requirements, particularly in terms of safety, security and the quality of services offered to passengers, he added.
For her part, Fadoua Chbani Idrissi, the Regional Delegate of Tourism in Marrakesh, said that this record number reflects the work done by all stakeholders in the sector to improve the attractiveness of the Marrakech destination and strengthen its air link with other national and international destinations.
For its part, the winner, Sarah Glover, an American journalist, welcomed this nice surprise and this warm welcome, expressing her immense joy to be the 6 millionth passenger of the Marrakech Menara airport and for her first visit to Morocco.
With 5,299,229 passengers registered at the end of October 2019, Marrakech Menara Airport is the 2nd largest airport in the Kingdom in terms of passenger traffic. This airport has recorded, since 2017, double-digit growth rates with an average annual change of +16.42%.
Air traffic at the ocher city airport has increased from 3.8 million passengers in 2016 to more than 6 million passengers today on December 11, 2019.
Marrakech Menara Airport is certified ISO 9001 Version 2015 and ISO 14001 Version 2015. It was also chosen in 2017 by users of the Sky Team alliance as the most beautiful airport in the world.
It is served by 31 airlines operating 477 weekly frequencies connecting the city of Marrakech to more than fifty destinations, including 3 long haul connecting the city ocher Doha, Istanbul and Jeddah.
