Marrakesh: Electric motorcycles, soon available

A pilot project for the promotion of electric motorcycles in the city of Marrakesh was launched Saturday at the Ocher City.

Result of a partnership between the urban municipality of Marrakesh and the Regional Council of Marrakesh-Safi and sustainable transport society (EMOB), this project aims to promote low-carbon sustainable mobility at the level of the Region to meet commitments of Morocco as part of its determined national contribution aimed at reducing the quantity of greenhouse gases in the transport sector, while offering a good service to users.

This is the promotion of electric motorcycles in Marrakesh where motorcycles are a significant part of road traffic (nearly 240,000 motorcycles).

The aim of the project is to make Marrakesh the most important African platform dedicated to the sustainable mobility industry and to install within the Marrakesh-Safi region an industrial ecosystem dedicated to the construction and marketing of sustainable vehicles.

The city can thus become a showcase and an international model for ecological mobility. By 2040 the Marrakesh-Safi Region wants to move to a park of two wheels 100% sustainable.

The project, which follows a feasibility study carried out as part of the Mohammed VI Foundation’s environmental protection program, aims to reach a target of 20,000 motorcycles in circulation by 2021 with the completion of the project of a local production unit.

The project is an opportunity to make Marrakesh an important African platform dedicated to the sustainable transport industry and contribute to the establishment of an industrial ecological system dedicated to the construction and marketing of sustainable vehicles in the Marrakesh-Safi region.
