The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on Monday sent a central committee to the Guinean capital of Accra to investigate a complaint accusing Moroccan ambassador to the Republic of Ghana, Mohamed Farahat, of sexual harassment.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation concluded a complaint by a woman who works locally at the Moroccan Embassy in Ghana accusing Ambassador Farahat of sexual harassment. Following this complaint, the ministry’s interests sent a committee to investigate the truth and take the necessary legal measures.
The harassment complaint, said that on December 11, the former ambassador asked the complainant to come to his coffee-making office while his private writer was conducting pregnancy-related medical examinations.
In her letter in English, local aid adds that, after serving coffee, the Moroccan diplomatic official began to linger and touch her body and offered her temptations such as a one-month training offer at the Rabat-based Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
“During one week I was sexually harassed twice by the Moroccan ambassador, and there is no indication that these harassment will stop soon, so I decided to resign from the embassy,” she said.
Local aid appealed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rabat to move to stop such practices, which could be the victim of new workers and employees of the embassy’s interests.
In April 2018, King Mohamed VI appointed Mohamed Farahat as Morocco’s ambassador to the Republic of Ghana. Farahat has held many responsibilities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; in particular, he held the position of Head of the Department of Sectoral Studies and Coordination and Head of the Disarmament Section of the United Nations Directorate and International Organizations.
The same official occupied several post in the Embassy of Morocco in the Central African Republic and served as Head of Mission at the Moroccan Embassy in China and Deputy Head of Mission at the Moroccan Embassy in France in 2017.
