Morocco 5th largest producer of olive oil

Morocco will occupy, according to forecasts for the 2020-2021 season, fifth place in the ranking of olive oil producing countries internationally with a production of 140,000 tonnes, which will represent 5% of world production. This production is the result of an increase in average production in recent years thanks to the efforts of the Green Morocco Plan strategy, with the intensification of farms.

Global olive oil production is forecast to reach 3,086,500 tonnes in the 2020-2021 season, 5% below the previous season.

Spain will remain at the top of the world ranking with 1,510,000 tonnes, representing an increase of 21% over the previous season and 49% of world production. Italy comes second with 280,000 tonnes (9% of world production), ahead of Greece with 220,000 tonnes (7% of world production).

As for Tunisia, it will record the largest drop in olive oil production, given the high production the previous season and the lack of rainfall in recent months. It should reduce its production by 44% compared to last season, an estimate of 170,000 tonnes will drop it from second to fourth place, with 6% of world production.
