Morocco is the 4th world producer of Saffron

Morocco is the world’s fourth largest producer of saffron, with a production of 6.8 tonnes in 2018 for an area of approximately 1,800 hectares.

Iran is the largest producer, with 180 to 185 tonnes per year, controlling 90% of the world market. Next come India and Greece. Much sought after and expensive, saffron is the most expensive spice in the world. It is very popular with starred chefs. It’s a culture of altitude. In general, it normally vegetates at altitudes varying between 650 and 1200 meters.
