Morocco, Japan Eager to Foster Cooperation in Different Areas

Japanese foreign minister Taro Kono voiced, on Monday in Rabat, his determination to give new impetus to the Moroccan-Japanese cooperation in the different areas.
Speaking at a press briefing after his talks with Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the Japanese official, who is currently on an official visit to the Kingdom, voiced the will to strengthen cooperation between his country and the Kingdom of Morocco.

Morocco and Japan can play a huge role, through cooperation, in the development of Africa, said Kono.

Morocco is an important partner for Japan and is a gateway to Europe and Africa, he said, highlighting the strong presence of Japanese businesses in Morocco.

Kono also stressed the importance of this visit as it is the first by a Japanese foreign minister to Morocco in 31 years.

For his part, Bourita welcomed this historic visit, underlining the excellent bilateral relations which are growing stronger on the back of the friendship ties between the royal family in Morocco and the imperial family in Japan.

During these talks, the two sides agreed to develop cooperation in several areas notably in the political field through strengthening consultations between the two parties and the establishment of a joint inter-ministerial committee, in addition to developing the necessary mechanisms to strengthen the role of Japanese companies in the field of investment in Kingdom, Bourita noted.
