Morocco: Launch of the Emirates Energy Award 2020

This award aims to promote new practices and techniques aimed at improving energy efficiency, rationalizing consumption and encouraging the use of renewable energies.

The Dubai Supreme Energy Council today launched the fourth edition of the Emirates Energy Award 2020, which will be under the patronage of SA Sheikh Mohammed Ibn Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Sovereign from Dubai. This announcement was made on April 25, 2010, at a press conference held in Casablanca, Morocco, and organized in the wake of the Council’s promotional plan. The latter aims to mobilize research centers, but also innovators from all sectors (public or private) to participate in this award.

The representative of the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Morocco and HE Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Supreme Energy Council of Dubai and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Emirates Energy Award, took part in this conference, Tahir Diab, Secretary General of the Emirates Energy Award and Mr Ali Al Suwaidi, Vice President of the Marketing and Events Committee of the Emirates Energy Award. This delegation was accompanied by high-level Moroccan officials from the Moroccan Ministry of Energy and Minerals, but also Moroccan representatives of public or private institutions and professors-researchers from universities and research centers that operate in the renewable energy sector in Morocco.

The Emirates Energy Award 2020 was articulated around the theme: “Promoting Innovation for Sustainable Energy”; It aims to attract the latest innovations, technologies, solutions, practices and leading-edge activities in the field of energy efficiency and the efficient use of water and renewable energies. This prize is a leading international platform that allows various public and private institutions, as well as research centers and innovators from all walks of life, to become acquainted with the latest technologies and energy solutions. It also allows them to share their ideas and experiences in order to contribute to the development and implementation of energy projects that reduce the effects of climate change and carbon emissions. The award also recognizes excellence and encourages everyone to design new methods and techniques in the field of energy efficiency, but also the conservation and production of renewable energy.

The press conference was marked by a great deal of public interaction, which intervened on several occasions to fix certain details concerning the price, its categories and its different modalities. At the conference, Council representatives did not fail to reiterate the importance of the Emirates Energy Award to promote best practices in the field of energy conservation, but also innovation and development renewable energies.

Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Supreme Energy Council in Dubai and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Emirates Energy Award, said he was delighted with the launch of the Emirates Energy Award in Morocco. “Thanks to its international dimension and its pioneering projects, the Energy Emirates Award reflects more than ever the direction of the United Arab Emirates, as part of its Vision 2021 and its Energy Strategy to 2050. This award aims to support the efforts of the state to achieve better sustainable development and to preserve natural resources for future generations. In accordance with the eight principles of governance in Dubai that were presented by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Sovereign of Dubai, the fact of being able to improve the lives of people and attracting talent and the best brains, is of utmost importance for our country,” he said.

Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi also pointed out that the Emirates Energy Award was aimed primarily at encouraging all individuals and institutions to adopt innovative solutions and policies in the areas of energy conservation, production and energy efficiency of renewable energy, the rationalization of energy consumption and the preservation of water and the environment.

“This award also calls for the respect of the best technologies and practices in the field of energy. Characterized by its innovative spirit and by the low-cost solutions that it proposes and which aim to guarantee a better sustainable development, the price provides more than ever a favorable environment for the exchanges of ideas, visions and solutions related to new technologies; it also aims to maximize returns in order to achieve the best possible results for future innovations,” he continued.

Ahmed Butti Al Muhairbi also added that the Emirates Energy Award represents a pioneering platform to showcase the latest innovations and technologies in energy use. “It offers an excellent opportunity for various participating companies and institutions of the energy and environment sector, as well as universities and research centers, to be able to present their latest innovations to large international companies. We are convinced that Moroccan innovations will prove to be extremely competitive, they will provide a qualitative complement to the latest energy technologies, while at the same time giving them the best results.”

The prize will be awarded in 10 different categories: the energy efficiency award for the public sector (gold, silver and bronze), the energy efficiency award for the private sector (gold, silver and bronze), prices of major energy projects (gold, silver and bronze), large and small solar energy implementation projects (over 500 kW) in real estate structures and buildings (gold, silver and bronze), the price of education and capacity building (gold, silver and bronze), the price of applied research and product development (gold, silver and bronze), the award for young innovations (gold, silver and bronze), as well as a special price.
