The legal and operational means to strengthen the protection of personal data were recently on the agenda of a meeting in Rabat, between the chairman of the National Commission for the Control of Protection of Personal Data (CNDP), Omar Seghrouchni, accompanied by experts from the Commission, and representatives of the company Facebook.
In a statement, the CNDP indicated that it has requested that data centers hosting personal data of citizens and residents in Morocco, both those collected from them, with their consent, and those generated by their use, located in countries considered by the Commission as adequate in terms of the protection of personal data.
The commission asked for the establishment of mechanisms to deal effectively with the company Facebook, complaints addressed to the CNDP and related to invasion of privacy, image or ethics , identity theft, the right to forget, geolocation and profiling by social networks of the company Facebook. On the operational side, the CNDP has expressed to representatives of the company Facebook its willingness to study proposals on the good practices of social networks, which could enrich the editorial content of the platform dedicated to the protection of children’s digital privacy and adolescents in Morocco, which will soon be put online by the CNDP, the statement said.
With regard to the reflection and forward-looking plan, the press release discusses current and future developments in the world and uses of digital technology (new uses, categorization of explainable algorithms, responsible artificial intelligence, becoming the accounts of deceased persons, …).
The CNDP also asked representatives of the Facebook company to study its requests and to propose, as part of their next exchanges, an effective action plan able to respond to these various points, concludes the document.
