A total of 9.5 million tourists visited Morocco during the first nine months of 2018, an increase of 8% over the same period a year earlier, according to the Tourism Observatory.
The number of foreign tourists (TES) increased by 14%, while the arrivals of Moroccans living abroad (MRE) increased by 2%, says the Observatory in its statistics on Moroccan tourism for the month of September 2018.
This increase affected the main issuing markets, particularly Italy (+ 14%), Germany (+ 10%), France (+ 7%) and Holland (+ 5%), says the Observatory.
Regarding the total nights registered in classified tourist accommodation establishments, they increased by 9% at the end of September 2018 (+ 13% for non-resident tourists and + 1% for residents).
The two tourist hubs Marrakesh and Agadir alone generated 60% of total nights at the end of September, observes the Observatory, which notes that these two destinations have experienced an increase of 10% and 9%, respectively.
Other destinations also performed well, especially Fez, Rabat and Tangier with increases of 21%, 11% and 10% respectively, the same source added.
During the month of September 2018, the number of arrivals of tourists at the border posts increased by 8% compared to the same month of 2017 (+ 18% for the TES and + 2% for the MRE), according to the Observatory.
