Morocco rescues 133 migrants en route to Spain

Morocco’s navy have rescued 133 migrants since Saturday off the country’s northern and southern coasts, the Moroccan army said Monday.

The rescue came when the migrants’ boats ran into trouble while heading to Spanish southern coasts and Canary Islands, the army said.

The rescued migrants were provided with necessary medical care and carried safely to neighboring ports, it added.

Morocco has witnessed a significant hike in illegal immigration attempts in 2018.

According to the Interior Ministry, Morocco has foiled more than 76,000 illegal immigration attempts between January and November.
