Morocco: Some Hirak detainees soon free

Twelve detainees from Hirak will have to be released in the coming days after serving their sentences in Al Hoceima and Nador prisons, a well-informed source said.

They are Abdelkhair Y. and Mohamed F., who will be released on May 27, from Nouri A. and Rachid A. (May 28), Jawad E. and Mohcine A. (June 6), Jamal M. and Anas K. (June 9), and Jawad B., Walid O. and Mohamed B. (June 16). All are currently incarcerated in al-Hoceima Prison, except for Mohcine A. who is serving his sentence in Nador Prison.

It should also be recalled that the Casablanca Court of Appeal confirmed, at the beginning of April, the judgments of the first instance against the activists of Hirak and the journalist Hamid El Mahdaoui.

Sentences ranging from 20 years in prison to one year in prison suspended were pronounced last June against the accused in the events of Al Hoceima.

4 defendants were sentenced to 20 years in prison each, including Hirak leader Nasser Zefzafi.
