The Moroccan authorities have decided to hold the four main GAFAs (Google, Amazon, Facebook and Apple) to account.
According to our sources, these four giants make a crazy money on the back of the national electronic media without paying them a cent or so, since YouTube, for example, is an exception.
Our government sources explain that, as a first step, a national organization will be in charge of establishing the audience of the electronic sites and make an evaluation of what this hearing reports to the GAFA.
Subsequently, it will be Mohamed Benchaaboun, moneymaker of the kingdom to act because it is he who, in the name of Morocco, is entitled to ask the GAFA accounts.
In this sense, say our sources, Morocco wants to follow the example of France, which wants to impose the digital giants up to 3% of their turnover in France.
The GAFA turnover and nothing on the digital activities is close to 750 million euros and a little more than 25 million euros in France.
