Thales, the French electronics group specializing in aerospace, defense, security and ground transportation, has appointed Hicham Alj as managing director of Thales Morocco. According to the group’s press release, it has “more than 22 years of expertise in the field of digital transformation, cloud, end-to-end security, commercial development projects and program management”.

Prior to landing at Thales, Hicham Alj “spent several years as a technology consultant in France, then held several senior positions at Hewlett Packard for the Middle East, before joining Groupe Nokia to manage different divisions at the global level, “the statement said.

Thales has 65,000 employees and is present in 56 countries. In total, it generated a turnover of 15.8 Billion euros in 2017.

In Morocco, Thales is present in several fields. In the transportation sector, the group has deployed a global mobile telecommunications system (GSM-R) on seven Moroccan network lines, including the recently inaugurated Casablanca-Tangier TGV, and installed its signaling solutions on several lines. Finally, in security, Thales has developed national contactless biometric identity cards.

According to the group, the appointment of the new Chief Executive Officer “is fully in line with the Group’s new strategic vision in Morocco and meets a three-fold ambition: to anchor the Group’s positioning in Morocco for the long term, to reinforce its commitment in the context of its cooperation with Morocco and support the development of infrastructure and enhance human capital, and develop the skills of Moroccan talent.
