Pedro Sánchez expected in Morocco in the coming weeks

King Mohammed VI has given his high instructions to prepare for the official visit to Rabat in the coming weeks of President Pedro Sánchez. After having clearly expressed his desire to resume relations with Spain, on the occasion of the Feast of the Throne, the monarch thus joins action with his word.

“With all sincerity and confidence, we aspire to continue working with the Spanish government and its President, His Excellency Mr. D. Pedro Sánchez, in order to open a new era in relations between the two countries, on the basis of trust, transparency, mutual respect and respect for commitments”, declared Mohammed VI on August 20 in his speech on the occasion of the Feast of the Throne.

The two countries went through four months of crisis, which started with Spain’s reception of the Polisario Front leader, Brahim Ghali. During the period, Morocco cut off all contact with Spain, and recalled to Rabat for consultations, its ambassador in Madrid, Karima Benyaich. To calm Morocco, President Sánchez thanked his former foreign minister, Arancha González Laya. The new Minister José Manuel Albares, in all discretion, worked to reestablish dialogue and resume relations on new bases.
