The Ministry of Economy and Finance said that the indicators of the agricultural sector show a positive development for the agricultural season 2018-2019, based on the follow-up of vegetation cover for the month of November, conducted by the Royal Center for Remote Sensing, a national institution that collects and analyzes data and images of land monitoring in the Kingdom for the benefit of government sectors.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance, in a note of the situation for the month of December, prepared by the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts, that the data of the Center show that the status of vegetation cover is greater than the level recorded last year in all parts of the Kingdom.
The note also noted that favorable climatic conditions for the current agricultural season allowed the filling rate of the main national dams to reach 14.8%, compared with 35.3% on the same date last year.
According to the document, it is expected that there will be record production in many crops in the agricultural season 2018-2019, taking advantage of the achievements of the advanced stage of the implementation of the Green Morocco scheme and the efforts of various stakeholders in this sector.
With regard to olive production, it is expected to reach 2 million tons on a production area of about 975 thousand hectares, a rise of 22.3% compared to the previous agricultural season. The acid will produce 2.62 million tons on a production area of 117,400 hectares, representing an increase of 17% and a record yield of 22.1 tonnes per hectare.
The agricultural sector will benefit from a new dynamic following the directives of King Mohammed VI, at the opening of the autumn session of the parliament, to allocate an additional 1 million hectares of agricultural lands by the state to benefit small farmers through their identification.
In terms of external trade, the agriculture and agri-food sector generated revenues of MAD 52.1 billion in the first 11 months of this year, compared to MAD 49.1 billion last year. This is due to the increase in exports of agriculture, forestry and hunting sector by 13.5%.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance also showed positive indicators for the tourism sector in terms of the number of arrivals and overnight. The number of tourists exceeded 10 million during the first 10 months, for the first time starting in October, after this figure was achieved in November of last year.
This figure, according to the figures for the December event, contributed to the increase in the volume of tourism revenues in the first 11 months of the current year by 0.7%, bringing the total to 67.1 billion dirhams.
