The prices of 319 drugs fell after their exemption from the Value Added Tax (VAT), announced the Ministry of Health. This decline includes drugs used for costly diseases, including antibiotics, treatments for anemia, hemorrhage and epilepsy, as well as for sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
The decision of the Department of Health comes under the provisions of the Finance Act 2019 on the exemption of VAT for factories on drugs exceeding 588 dirhams (selling price to the public exceeding MAD 962).
The Ministry also expressed its determination to encourage the local pharmaceutical industry and work to build national capacity in this area, with the aim of placing more drugs on the list of reimbursable treatments by the credit unions of Health Insurance.
