Professionals of Tourism gathered in Marrakesh

The work of the 60th Congress of the World Federation of Travel Journalists and Writers (FIJET) officially kicked off on Saturday in Marrakesh with the participation of more than 250 journalists representing different media around the world.

Placed under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this event, which continues until 3 December, is a good opportunity to present Morocco’s efforts in the field of tourism promotion, while allowing participants to discover closely the tourist facilities available to Kingdom.

The Congress, which is also an opportunity to highlight the relationship between tourism and culture as well as the future of this relationship, is of particular importance with regard to the quality of the participants from around 30 countries around the world, which is undoubtedly an added value for the support of tourism, which has become one of the most important economic sectors in the economies of several countries.

The official opening ceremony of this meeting was marked by vibrant tributes to great figures and pioneers of the tourist press namely, the late Mustapha Trai, former president of AMJET-FIJET Morocco, Ahmed Zghari, dean Moroccan press, Moulay Mustapha Alaoui, first independent journalist in Morocco and Miguel Garcia Breira, honorary president of FIJET-Spain.

A documentary film produced by the Moroccan National Office of Tourism (ONMT) and which highlights the potentialities, assets and tourism products of which the Kingdom abounds as well as the diversity and the richness of its cultural heritage, was projected to this opportunity.

The program of this Congress foresees two great excursions, one towards the imperial cities and the other towards the Great South, besides a forum under the theme “Tourism and Culture – Which report? – What future?”.

If the choice of the Executive Board of the FIJET was focused on Morocco to host this congress, it is mainly because the nomination file presented by the Moroccan Association of Journalists and Writers of Tourism (AMJET-FIJET Morocco) has managed to highlight the hotel infrastructure offered by the country, the legendary tourist attractions of Marrakesh and its region, as well as the rich and varied programming concocted for the congress participants.

This initiative will have a positive impact on the destination of Morocco, in general, and the ocher city, in particular, through the media contribution of the journalists participating in the Congress, which will serve to promote the potentialities of the Kingdom.

The organization by Morocco of this major event reflects the importance given to the tourism and media sectors.

It should be recalled that the association had already organized in 2016 the meeting in Morocco of the Executive Bureau of FIJET, which was followed by a press trip to the cities of Casablanca, Marrakesh, Chefchaouen, Meknes and Tangiers, with the participation of more than 120 journalists.
