PWR kicked off its WTCR campaign in Morocco

PWR Racing experienced a variety of emotions for its debut in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO last weekend.

After overcoming the huge disappointment of a puncture that excluded Daniel Haglöf from the top 10 in Race 1, the Swedish team was able to celebrate a podium of Mikel Azcona in Race 3 – which concluded a memorable WTCR AFRIQUIA Race of Morocco for gray CUPRAs.

“To have been so good during our first WTCR race is very good,” said team director Emil Axelsson. “I am proud and impressed by everyone on the team. Mechanics, engineers and pilots all worked very hard together. Of course, there are some things to improve, it was our first WTCR weekend. But, wow, what a great performance.”

Haglöf held a comfortable eighth place, finishing tenth on the grid in Race 1 when a puncture forced him to return to the pits. “We are not entirely sure what happened, we think it could be a slow puncture due to contact with Yann Ehrlacher early in the race,” says Axelsson. “It was of course very, very bad because we were on the road to a great result.”

Azcona however secured a point to PWRC for his first appearance in WTCR/OSCARO, with 15th place. And it was going to be even better for the Spaniard, with fifth place in Race 2 and third in Race 3. Haglöf’s efforts were rewarded by a rise from 18th to 10th in the last race of the weekend of Marrakech, which earned him his first points in WTCR/OSCARO.
