The 2022 World Cup matches could start at 10:00 am (GMT, 11:00 am) during the group stage, if there are four games in the same day, the Qatari organizers announced.
“There is a proposal to play four matches a day, one at 13:00 Doha time (10:00 GMT) and then 16:00, 19:00 and 22:00. This will be finalized with FIFA”, said Nasser Al-Khater, Deputy Secretary General of the organizing committee of the 2022 World Cup.
“We are currently planning three matches a day, but we are also planning to hold four a day because the weather and temperature are good and all the stadiums are equipped with air conditioning”, he added.
The Qatari World Cup faces a double constraint: the first held in winter (21 November-18 December) rather than in summer, will last only 28 days against 32 usually, while FIFA studies the possibility of extending the number of participants from 32 to 48 teams.
Al-Khater also said that construction work on four of the eight Mondial enclosures would be completed by the end of next year: the already renovated Khalifa stadium, Al-Wakrah, Al -Bayt and Al-Rayyan.
