Rabat-Salé Airport crosses the million passenger mark

Rabat-Salé Airport crossed the milestone of one million passengers on Tuesday in Rabat, an event which was celebrated with a grand ceremony organized by the National Airport Office (ONDA), in partnership with the Council regional tourism office in Rabat.

This achievement comes at a time when air traffic from this airport, ISO 9001 version 2015 and ISO 14001 version 2015 certified, has almost tripled over the past 10 years, with average annual growth of around 11.5%, according to ONDA.

On this occasion, the acting director of Rabat-Salé airport, Mohammed Benhaddouch stressed, in a press statement, the importance and the symbolism of this happy event which celebrates the arrival of the 1 millionth passenger at the level from Rabat-Salé airport.

He noted that air traffic at this airport has seen a clear evolution in recent years, since it is connected to several destinations in Europe and the Middle East, in addition to a domestic connection connecting Rabat to Agadir.

“Rabat-Salé Airport is equipped with all the equipment and infrastructure necessary to ensure passengers the best conditions of safety, security and quality of service,” he said, noting that to alleviate air traffic which is still evolving at the airport, ONDA is in the process of building a new terminal with a capacity of 4 million passengers.

Indeed, Rabat-Salé airport, which extends over a land area of ​​1,500 Ha, has in particular terminal 1. With an area of ​​16,000 m² corresponding to a capacity of 1,500,000 passengers/year, this terminal has was inaugurated by His Majesty the King on January 20, 2012. This airport also has Terminal 2, with an area of ​​3,600 m² and a capacity of 360,000 passengers/year, which is dedicated to Hajj and Umrah flights and to flights servants.

According to an ONDA document, air traffic at Rabat-Salé airport recorded an increase of around 6.81% in 2018 compared to 2017, welcoming 987,695 passengers.

This upward trend was also observed during the first ten months of 2019, recording cumulative growth of +13%, according to the same source.

Thus, during the period from January to the end of October 2019, Rabat-Salé airport welcomed 919,550 passengers, compared to 814,945 passengers accommodated in the same period of 2018.

Rabat-Salé Airport is served by 8 airlines, operating 78 weekly frequencies which connect Rabat-Salé Airport to fifteen international airports in Europe and the Middle East, in addition to a domestic connection with Agadir Al Massira airport.
